St Ursula’s Catholic College, Kingsgrove
St Ursula’s College is an all-girls Catholic Secondary College located in Sydney’s South West.
With a vision of ‘igniting the spirit’ in all students, and a focus on love of learning, the College has a long tradition of delivering excellence in academic success and pastoral care.
Founded in 1957, the College is built on a small and highly restricted site, which it shares with Parish and Our Lady of Fatima Primary School. In recent years the College has grown to over 1000 students, which triggered the need for a campus master plan and five stages of subsequent building projects.
JDH Architects challenge was to address the College’s need for a contemporary learning environment, in alignment with their mantra to ignite the spirit.
Stage 2 of the master plan included vibrant and contemporary general purpose learning areas, science labs and library and internal and external areas dedicated to student wellbeing.
JDH Architects and the College continued to build on the strategy of flexible and responsive learning via extensive collaboration with staff, students and the community during both the first and second stages of this project.
“Jayne and her team have a robust understanding of how learning can be reflected enabled design. JDH Architects’ designs are respectful of the environment and existing buildings, in fact the plans for the College provide better areas for students, staff and community that we could ever have imagined.”
