Nirimba Educational Precinct

The Nirimba Educational Precinct is Western Sydney University’s first 5 Star Green Star–rated, 21st-century learning facility, accommodating up to 1,000 students and doubling the campus’s capacity for teaching and learning. The facility comprises 18 flexible learning spaces, a 450-seat public lecture theatre, and a range of shared communal areas that support working, learning, and gathering. Conceived as a model of sustainability, JDH Architects worked closely with the client and end-user groups to ensure the building’s sustainable features were not only embedded in its performance but also actively used as a teaching tool. Through a collaborative design process, we developed innovative, integrated solutions that respond to the key themes of Learning, Collaboration, Inspiration, Sustainability, Transformation, Community, and Excellence, aligning directly with Western Sydney University’s mission of sustainability as core business.
