Chevalier College, Burradoo
In 1973, the college became co-educational and, in 2011, JDH Architects was engaged to re-image this historic place of learning. The brief for the re-imagining of the college’s Performing Arts Centre was to deliver a building on par with Regional Centres of excellence for performance.
Chevalier College has since grown to have over 1000 students. The brief for the re-imagining of the Colleges Performing arts Centre was to deliver a building on par with Regional Centres of excellence for Performance.
This project was part of an overall master plan for the site, which includes a new Sports Complex, Trade Skills Centre and Convention Centre. JDH Architects re-imagined the existing facility with a refurbishment and contemporary but functional facelift, ready to bring a real theatre experience to the young performers.
The team worked closely with a theatre design consultant and an acoustic engineer to ensure the highest standards of quality for the theatre venues.
In the design process, JDH Architects focused on the upgrade of the existing auditorium, provision of new performance spaces and connectivity of the facilities within the backstage area.
“…Through-out the programme of the works Jayne and her excellent team (of architects) have proved to be imaginative, attentive and very responsive to the evolving requirements of the College”
