Project Description

St Ursula’s Catholic College, Kingsgrove

St Ursula’s College is a Catholic all girls secondary College located in Sydney’s South West.

With a vision of ‘igniting the spirit’ in all students, and a focus on a love of learning, the College has a long tradition of delivering excellence in academic success and pastoral care.

Founded in 1957, the College is built on a small and highly restricted site, which it shares with Parish and Our Lady of Fatima Primary School. In recent years the College has grown to over 1000 students, which triggered the need for a campus master plan and five stages of subsequent building projects.

JDH Architects challenge was to address the College’s need for a contemporary learning environment, in alignment with their mantra to ignite the spirit.

Stage One of the master plan implementation included 18 new general-purpose learning areas, four science labs and a new library. The first stage of the master plan realised a vibrant new building that promotes collaborative partnerships across the College. Through extensive collaboration with staff, students and the community, JDH Architects co-created a strategy that was both flexible and responsive to the Colleges teaching and learning needs, and has resulted in an engaging and dynamic learning environment for both staff and students at St Ursula’s.

“Jayne and the team from JDH Architects are amazing!  St Ursula’s College is a complex site but Jayne and team have worked with our community, running design workshops with students and staff and really listening to our hopes and dreams for contemporary learning. These dreams have been transformed into buildings, learning spaces and classroom layouts that are flexible and will meet current and future learning needs.”
